Privacy Policy

The short version

Amber captures screenshots of your screen to make them searchable later. Your data is yours. We don’t sell it, we don’t train on it, and we don’t share it with anyone.

What we collect

  • Screenshots: Captured locally on your device every 15 seconds while the app is running. Uploaded as encrypted thumbnails to our secure storage.
  • Embeddings: Semantic representations of your screenshots used to power natural language search. These are numerical vectors — not readable text or images.
  • Account information: Your email address and name from Google OAuth, used solely for authentication.
  • Payment information: Processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell your data to anyone.
  • We don’t use your screenshots to train AI models.
  • We don’t share your data with third parties beyond what’s needed to run the service (cloud hosting, payment processing).
  • We don’t track you across websites or apps.

Data storage & security

Screenshots are stored as JPEG thumbnails in AWS S3 with access controlled via presigned URLs. Your authentication tokens are encrypted using your operating system’s secure storage. Database connections are encrypted in transit.

Sensitive content

Amber captures everything visible on your screen. This may include sensitive information like passwords, private messages, or financial data. We recommend pausing capture when viewing sensitive content. The app includes a blacklist for specific applications that will not be captured.

Data deletion

You can request deletion of all your data at any time by contacting us. When you delete your account, all associated screenshots, embeddings, and personal information are permanently removed from our systems.

Changes to this policy

We’ll notify you of any material changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
